It is a brand new year - 2009. Isn't that refreshing? I think about all the wonderful things this year will hold. All the possibilities that are out there just waiting to be acted upon. I love the New Year.
We all had a wonderful Christmas and New Years Day. It was so fun to see Adam and Jarom really look forward to Christmas this year. Christmas Eve proved to be the highlight of my Christmas. We made it a point to stay home and focus on the "true" meaning of Christmas - Christ.
We sat down as a family and watched "Joy to the World". You can probably imagine four excited children age 5 and under not wanting to sit still the night before Christmas. Adam and Jarom were jumping from one couch cushion to another. Rachel sat on my lap a little disturbed that her brothers were jumping all over her blanket. Joshua (12 months) tried with all his might to get the remote control and then finally succeeded, pushing the power button on the DVD player so we could listen to the nice blast on the TV. Then to add to it, our Clear Play was not on the Religious Function, so almost every other line was muted.
Then, to my surprise, Jarom snuggled by me with his little arm linked in mine. He began to watch the movie. The Christus appeared on the screen and Jarom noticed Christ's outstretched arms. He looked at me and asked,"Mom. is Jesus loving us?"
Joy filled my heart for the beautiful way he had seen Christ. "Yes, Jarom. He is loving us."
Since then I have thought about this question. In this case, loving is a verb, an action; it is not something of the past, but rather the present. Indeed, Christ stands with open arms loving us, waiting for us to bask in it!
When I told this story to Nathaniel, he said that Koreans speak the same way. Rather than saying, "I love you." They say, "I am loving you."
I find it amazing how much a three year old can teach me. What a precious Christmas gift.
